Here are a few charities, people, and organizations I believe in that are fighting against climate change and other causes that are important to me. If you can, I encourage you to donate, as this is a very direct way to help combat the effects climate change.


Charities

Greenpeace
One of the most well-known ecological charities founded in 1971. Greenpeace does not solicit support from governments or corporations and relies on donations from individual contributors. https://www.greenpeace.org/usa/

Coalition for Rainforest Nations
CfRN assists tropical governments, communities, and people groups in protecting and preserving their rainforests. Rainforests are an essential natural barrier against climate change and CfRN is a unique organization in their tireless efforts to protect rainforests in a way that respects the culture of the people groups who lived in harmony with them for centuries.

Sandbag
A nonprofit think tank whose goal is to use data analysis to create evidence-based climate policy. Sandbag is based in Europe and accepts PayPal donations.

The Environmental Defense Fund
The EDF is one of the largest environmental charities and one of the top rated by CharityNavigator.org. The EDF is incredibly diverse and international and has played a central role in passing legislature to clean up air in America over the past 50 years.

4ocean
The focus of 4ocean is, obviously, cleaning plastic out of our oceans. They sell really cool bracelets made out of plastic removed by the ocean and remove one pound of plastic and other trash from oceans and coastlines for every purchase on their website.

Earthjustice
“Because the earth needs a good lawyer.” Earthjustice has almost 150 lawyers and almost 700 ongoing legal proceedings working on earth’s behalf. Earthjustice does all of their work pro bono, is an accredited member of the Better Business Bureau, and is in the 98th percentile of charities rated by CharityNavigator.org.

Political Candidates (US)

Bernie Sanders (I-VT)
Senator Sanders is one of the leading proponents on the Green New Deal, and has Simply Sustainable’s endorsement for the 2020 election. There is no other candidate running right now who has as comprehensive a plan to put a stop to climate change and begin reversing the harmful effects of climate change.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY)
The first thing you think of when you think AOC is Green New Deal, but she is also co-authoring the Climate Equity Act which is designed to ” hold the federal government accountable for ensuring that frontline communities are at the center of environmental and climate-related policies, rules, regulations, and investments.” AOC represents the future of climate-related policy making

Ro Khanna (D-CA)
Congressman Khanna has sponsored or cosponsored over 200 pieces of climate-related legislature, and has a superb voting record on existing pieces of legislature, such as the Protecting America’s Wilderness Act. Congressman Khanna has made a commitment to leave a healthy, clean, and safe planet for future generations.

Paula Jean Swearingen
Paula Jean Swearingen is running for the US Senate in West Virginia. Her platform centers largely around finding sustainable alternatives to the coal industry in WV and helping those negatively affected by the coal industry to recieve justice. Swearingen wants to develop a large clean energy market in WV.

Jessica Cisneros
Jessica Cisneros is running for Congress (in Texas) against “Trump’s Favorite Democrat.” Cisneros is a first generation American, the daughter of Mexican immigrants, and has been endorsed by Senator Bernie Sanders. Cisneros’ platform focuses on Texas’s unique ability to contribute to the Green New Deal.

Shahid Buttar
Shahid Buttar is a social democrat running to take the seat of establishment Democrat Nancy Pelosi. Buttar supports aggressive climate-related policies and has a goal of transitioning America to completely renewable and clean sources of energy in the next 10 years.

Other

Justice Democrats (US)
The Justice Democrats are trying to remake the Democratic party in the image of the people. Their main platform issues are Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, and Racial Justic. Famous Justice Democrats include Alexandira Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashia Talib, and Ayanna Presley.

Fridays for Future
Inspired by Greta Thunberg’s school strike on Swedish parliament, Fridays for Future is a volunteer-run organization that supports and organizes other student-led climate strikes.

SomeMoreNews
SomeMoreNews is an independent news organization run by Cody Johnston and Katy Stoll. Johnston and Stoll seek to disseminate news in an honest, authentic way without the influence of billionaires (unlike most major news outlets). They rely largely on patreon support and donations.

US Climate Action Network

USCAN is a network of almost 200 climate action organizations. USCAN works towards goals outlined in the Paris Climate Summit, provides orgnaizational support to other charities and organizations, and is a part of a globel Climate Action Network that is active in over one thousand individual organizations in 90 countries.

The Green 10
The Green 10 are ten of the largest climatee-action organizations working with the European Union to protect the climate, the local environment, biodiversity and human health within and beyond its borders. The Green 10 does not accept government or industry support and relies largely on member contributions.

The Guardian
The Guardian is an independent news source with no commercial interests. The Guardian is best known for the Paradise Papers, the NSA Revelations, and most notably, the Panama Papers. The Guardian is an excellent source for climate-related news and is funded by readers, not corporations or billionaires.

These are just a few of the amazing people and organizations out there working to combat climate change. I’ve vetted these organizations and they meet my standards, but as you should with every charity, please vet them yourself and make sure that they are up to yours.
